Chapter 17: Drawing Graphics for Duck Blast in Paint Shop Pro

In the previous chapter, we began to look at simulating 3D in MMF. In this chapter, we are going to create the graphics for the game we are now working on. We’ll be drawing a background image along with an image of a duck. We’ll actually create the duck twice (once in this chapter and once in the next) as a way to compare drawing the graphic in 2D in Paint Shop Pro as opposed to rendering it in 3D with MilkShape.

Step-by-Step Drawing Background

Unlike most of the chapters in this book, this one basically amounts to a series of steps that can be followed in order to get the desired results.

  1. Create a new image in Paint Shop Pro using Figure 17.1 as a guide for settings.

Figure 17.1: These are the correct settings for the new image.

  2. Click Preset Shapes in the toolbar (see Figure 17.2).

Figure 17.2: Choose Preset Shapes from the toolbar.

  3. Choose the triangle shape from the drop-down list (see Figure 17.3).

  4. Do not create as a vector (see Figure 17.4).

Figure 17.4: We do not want this to be a vector.

  5. Position your mouse approximately halfway down the left side of the image as seen in Figure 17.5.

  12. Change the color to a shade of blue that will represent a sky, using Figure 17.12 as a guide.

Figure 17.12: Change the color to a shade for a blue sky.

  13. Position the Flood Fill tool inside the selection box created with the Magic Wand and left-click (see Figure 17.13).
