What type of memory modules are currently installed in your Macintosh? What is the speed of your Mac’s processor, and how many USB and FireWire ports are available? Do you know what applications you have installed and what their version numbers are?

You may need to find out the answers to these questions if you have to contact Apple’s technical support or if you are trying to determine whether an application will run on your system.

Rather than disassemble your Macintosh or get dirty under your desk, you can answer these questions — and many more concerning your system’s hardware and software — with the Mac OS X System Profiler.
