Every element in an XML document is determined by a unique path. For example, if you want to find the author element in the file book.xml, the complete path is /book/author. A match in an XSL template occurs when the condition specified in the match portion identifies a node, or when the concatenation of the match portion with a sub-path within the given template yield a full path that identifies a node. This point is illustrated in the following XSL stylesheet, which displays the name and author of the book in the file book.xml.
