Chapter 15. Advanced Titling: Styles and Templates

The Titler combines the power to create unique, attractive titles with the ability to save the style and design of the title's text and objects. With the Titler, you can create and save custom personalized titles and templates that you then can use over and over for multiple projects. Creating custom templates allows you to quickly load a title and update its text to reflect what is unique in its current application. If you produce your own videos, for example, you have the option to streamline and customize the titles that appear in your videos to incorporate custom logos or specific font styles.

While Chapter 10 taught you the basics of creating titles with the Titler, this chapter focuses on creating stylesthe way text appears, creating custom templates, modifying pre-made templates, and finally, creating a custom credit roll that can be saved as a template.

Aside from a new layout, the most powerful new Titler features are the ability to leave the Titler open while using the application and the saving of newly created titles directly into the project you are using (rather than as an individual file). Don't worry, you can still save titles out to disk and open existing titles without any hiccups. Because of the new default saving method, however, templates become an even more powerful storage area for the titles you use and create.

To kick off this chapter you will first create a geometric object with a custom style, and then you will create custom text that fits into the object. The result will be a lower-third title template that you can use for future projects. Along the way, you will learn about all the properties that make up the style of the text or object.
