Appendix 2.2: Official Holidays and Traditional Festivals in China

Li Yong, Deputy Secretary General, China Association of International Trade

Overview

Chinese festivals can be divided into two categories. Official festivals commemorate major events such as National Day, which marks the founding of the People's Republic of China, and Youth Day on 4 May, commemorating a major student movement of 80 years ago. The second category is traditional festivals such as Spring Festival, Moon Festival etc. Traditional festivals are part of Chinese culture and have been handed down over thousands of years of history.

Holidays and festivals offer businesses the opportunity to socialize with clients and carry out marketing and public relations campaigns .
