Summary

XML provides a general syntax for describing data that can be used in a wide variety of applications. It extends the feature set of HTML by providing human-readable , platform-independent code that is the perfect complement for modern databases that are required to exchange data over the Web. Oracle has shown its commitment to open standards by developing many technologies that allow organizations to integrate XML standards and technologies with their Oracle databases. There are general XML/database technologies such as the new XMLType database type, the SYS_XMLGEN and SYS_XMLAGG functions, and the DBMS_XMLGEN package available in the 10 g version of the Oracle database; and XML/Database technologies specific to a particular programming language, such as the XML Developer s Kit (XDK) for Java, C, C++, and PL/SQL. Viewed as a whole, these robust technologies provide developers with the tools necessary to integrate XML with Oracle databases to satisfy virtually any application or organizational requirement.
