iRobot Scooba Robotic Floor Washer
Help is now at hand. The folks behind the Roomba have just come out with a similar product for hard floors, called the Scooba. The Scooba is a self-propelled cleaning robot that vacuums, washes, and dries wood and tile floors in a single pass. Like the Roomba, the Scooba wriggles around your floor like one of those pool-cleaning thingies, in a seemingly random pattern that ultimately covers your entire floor space. Unlike the Roomba, the Scooba is designed for all types of sealed hard floors, and can clean wet spills in addition to normal dirt and grime. The Scooba uses a specially formatted cleaning solution, developed by Clorox, to get your floors sparkling clean. It uses only fresh water and cleaning solution from a clean tank, so it never spreads dirty water on your floor. It circles around and picks up the dirty solution, leaving your floors both clean and dry. If the Scooba is anything like the Roomba, I think it will be the smash hit of the holiday season. (iRobot has sold more than 1.2 million Roombas to date, by the way.) It's great for anyone who doesn't like cleaning, doesn't have time for cleaning, or isn't very good at cleaning (like me!). It's also a dream come true for older consumers and those with physical disabilities; no more mopping and scrubbing required!
Robosapien V2 Toy RobotThe Robosapien is a surprisingly advanced toy robot, capable of shuffling around aimlessly and making farting noises just like a lot of programmers I know. The new Robosapien V2 is bigger than the original (almost 32'' tall), with more advanced movements. He can bend over, lie down, twist back and forth, and track movement via infrared optical sensors. There's even a new stereo sound detection system that allows him to respond and react to noises. Plus, the Robosapien V2 has a new, edgier look kind of like a Power Ranger with big claws for hands.
Hokey Spokes LED Bicycle Spoke LightsApparently kids today no longer think putting playing cards in their bicycle spokes is cool. Instead, they need a set of LED bicycle spoke lights, like those sold by Hokey Spokes. (Love that name!) These are transparent blades that attach to your bicycle spokes; as the blades spin, a small microprocessor modulate the internal LCD lights so that custom images and text appear in thin air, thanks to the old persistence-of-vision effect. I gotta admit, these things are cooler than flipping playing cards!
Yamaha WX5 MIDI Wind ControllerYamaha's WX5 is a MIDI controller for woodwind players. It looks sort of like a flute but fingers like a saxophone, and connects to your computer via MIDI. You can run the WX5 through any MIDI tone generator or synthesizer, to make it sound like a trombone or guitar or piano or even a saxophone. It has a 16-key layout, high-resolution wind sensor for volume control, and thumb-controlled pitch bend wheel. It's great for current woodwind players, or even for newbies who want to play around a bit.
Maytag Skybox VendorHaven't you always wanted your own custom vending machine? Well, that's what Maytag's Skybox Vendor is, short of a functioning coin box. Just load it up with your favorite beverages, insert the appropriate selection cards, and get ready for liquid refreshment fun. You can customize the SkyBox with different selection cards, as well as interchangeable front and side display panels just like a commercial vending machine. It can hold up to 64 12-ounce cans or 32 12-ounce glass or plastic bottles, your choice of beverages.
