When you merge projects together, you create a consolidated project file. Consolidated projects allow you to piece together information to create an overall project plan or combine various projects into a master project plan. In this lesson, we will create a new consolidated project.

  1. Make sure the Project Personal Trainer CD and Project Personal Trainer Book files are open.

Now, consolidate these projects in a new window.

  2. Select Window The New Window dialog box appears, as shown in Figure 12-3. This is where you select the projects that you want to consolidate in a new window and how you want to view them.

  3. Select Project Personal Trainer Book, and then press and hold down the Shift key and select Project Personal Trainer CD. Make sure Gantt Chart appears in the View list and click OK. Close the Project Guide task pane.

Tip: Press the Shift or Ctrl key to select multiple files at a time.

Your new consolidated project window appears. Scroll down the window to see where the two projects were consolidated, as shown in Figure 12-4.

Each project that is consolidated in your new window is marked by a consolidated project icon in the indicator column.

  4. Save the consolidated project as Project Personal trainer Complete. Do not save changes in other files.

Tip: If what you really want to do is work with multiple projects at a time, create and save a workspace. Open the project files that you want to appear in your workspace, select File
